The Little Green Cottage is part of De Groene Luwte, our organic landscaped garden and biodynamic orchard and vegetable garden with some permaculture beds. Many organic gardeners (or gardeners-to-be) find inspiration here. Not only do we try to live as self-supporting as possible - and keeping chickens, geese and bees helps a lot - but we give courses and workshops on photography and all aspects of organic gardening. House and garden are open to the public on some Sundays throughout the spring and summer season, when Alma gives guided tours at 1 o'clock and we serve coffee, tea and homemade cakes on the terrace.
Our house is a classic late 19th-century Groningen village-farm, refurbished over the years: an eco isolated roof was installed and we added solar panels which will give us all the electricity we need. Groves in the garden provide fuel for wood burning stoves. We transformed the housebarn "De Deel" into our garden shop and art gallery, showing Doortjes photographs. It doubles as our parttime restaurant in autumn and winter ("De Groene Tafel", The Green Table) and area for all sorts of green activities.
